Louisville Science Pathways is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working with the University of Louisville and SummerWorks to determine what will be best decision for the program and our participants this year. We are currently planning and accepting applications for an in-person LSP during the Summer of 2023.
Stay safe and healthy!
Louisville Science Pathways (LSP) was founded in 2017 by then graduate student, Teodora Stoica. LSP is a paid research internship program for Jefferson County high school students at the University of Louisville. This program offers students a hands-on summer internship with scientists on the Belknap and Health Sciences Campuses in disciplines including neurobiology, anatomy, psychology, computer science, chemistry, physiology, biochemistry, cancer immunology, spinal cord research, pharmacology, biological engineering, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, bacteriology, and more. The main goals of LSP are to promote science education by connecting the UofL research with the Louisville community and to introduce high school students to scientific research career paths.

Yes! Applications for LSP 2024 are now OPEN! Final deadline to apply is April 1st, 2024. Is the internship paid?
Yes! Through a partnership with Kentuckiana Summerworks, we are able to offer paid internships to students in Jefferson County. Students in our 2022 program made $15/hr. How many hours per week are students required to work in the lab?
Each student is required to work a minimum of 20 hours each week. Students may not work over 30 paid hours each week. Do students need to have prior research experience?
No, students do not need to have previous experience working in the lab. Our program is actually geared towards students with no prior lab experience. |
How are students assigned to the lab they will work in for the summer?
After being accepted into LSP, students will be asked to rank projects based on their research interests. After receiving the rankings, the program directors will assign students to labs to match interests as best as possible. What does the program consist of daily?
Each student's daily schedule will be based on what lab they are assigned to work in. Each week students will also attend a sessions where they learn about different types of science careers. In previous years, these sessions have focused on medical school, careers in bioengineering, animals in research, and graduate school. |

Check out what our past participants thought about the program!
“I liked that I could experience a research lab first-hand” “I think it’s great students get to get a taste of exactly what they want to do in college” "Anyone interested in science would be stupid not to partake in LSP, the experience is second to none." “I like the opportunity it gives to those who desire to work within a science field. That alone already makes the program highly academic.” “It was really neat to hear from a variety of people in different places career wise during the professional development panel, and share about how they got where they are.” “This a wonderful opportunity to work and research in some labs that will grant you experience in that field of research. If you are looking for such experience, LSP is the way to go.” |
